
Cotter High School will have a new principal when the 2024-2025 school year begins. During its regular March session, the Cotter School Board unanimously approved the promotion of current junior high mathematics teacher, baseball coach and athletic director Jarod Jefferson to the position. Jefferson’s tenure as principal will begin July 1 as he will succeed Clark Gustin, who is in his second year at the position.
The board also accepted the resignations of elementary teachers Lauren Stack and Jasmine Brothers at the end of the current school year and of cafeteria staff member Cheryl Reed and custodian Aaron Lindsey effective Friday.
The meeting began with the reorganization process. Allen Franks will once again serve as the president, and he’ll also be the board disbursing officer. Luke Walker will be the vice president, and Jimmy Morgan will serve as the secretary.
The board also unanimously approved a bid by Howard Technology Solutions for over $52,000 for new cameras. The cameras will be paid for with a Stronger Connections Grant.
White River Solutions had the winning bid of over $89,000 to re-cable the entire high school building to the new network closet. Erate will pay for over $45,000, and the district will cover the remainder of the cost.
In addition, the board unanimously approved the calendar for the next school year and the renewal of health special risk insurance, the contract for Speech Therapy, the contract for Ozark Therapy and the certified contracts.
The board also approved of three transfers. One student will enter the district from Mountain Home, and two others will leave for Flippin and Yellville-Summit. Superintendent Jayme Jones reported the enrollment is 393 at Amanda Gist Elementary and 316 at Cotter High School for a total enrollment of 709.
