A Marion County man is facing charges nearly 10 months after the reported accidental fatal shooting of his sister. Twenty-four-year-old Zerahriah Harris of Oakland was booked Friday evening into the Marion County Law Enforcement Center on a felony count of manslaughter and a misdemeanor of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor in connection with the death of 27-year-old Haisley Mack.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Marion County investigator was called out around 10:30 on the night of Oct. 29 to a residence on Marion County Road 124 to a report of a male accidentally shooting his sister. Two days later, the investigator interviewed Harris at the sheriff’s office. Harris reportedly admitted to being intoxicated and believing the gun was unloaded on the night of the shooting.

Harris claims he and others in the residence had been scaring each other earlier that night in a playful manner. He says he heard Mack coming down the hall and thought he would scare her one more time. Harris reportedly admitted to picking up the gun, sticking it out when Mack came around the corner and pulling the trigger. Mack’s momentum went into the firearm the moment it fired. Another female was reportedly playing with Mack’s 3-year-old child less than 8 feet away from the incident.

Harris was released less than an hour after being booked on a bond of $25,000.
