On October 7 -12, millions of youth, adults, and alumni will come together to celebrate the youth development opportunities offered by 4-H through National 4-H Week.

This year’s campaign, “Beyond 4-H,” was created by the National 4-H Council to rally support for the Cooperative Extension’s 4-H program and identify solutions to eliminate the opportunity gaps which affect 55 million kids across America.

4-H believes young people, in partnership with adults, can play a key role in creating a more promising and equitable future for youth, families and communities across the country.

Baxter County 4-H will observe National 4-H Week this year by highlighting some of the measures 4-H takes for the betterment of the community. By encouraging diverse voices and innovative actions, 4-H believes solutions can be found to address the educational, economic and health issues that have created the opportunity gap.

Baxter County Extension Agent Amanda Rychtarik says, “4-H is a space for kids of all abilities and ages 5-19 to feel included and successful at what they enjoy doing. There are a lot of different project options available for kids to do. Though every kid may not get a blue ribbon at the end of the day, 4-H promotes success in its motto, ‘To Make the Best Better.’ This may look like a child learning animal husbandry when taking care of their livestock or improving public speaking while telling others about their project.”

4-H is also offering opportunities for volunteers. Rychtarik says, “We need volunteers who are willing to be mentors to these kids, too. They just need someone who can listen to ideas that they may have and offer some guidance to them.”
