Friday football results include Salem winning, Melbourne falling in Class 3A State Playoffs

Salem was able to dominate its opener in the Class 3A State Playoffs in front of the home crowd. The mercy rule was invoked as the Greyhounds routed West Fork 46-7. Salem improves to 8-3 on the season, and they’ll continue with home field advantage next week as they look to avenge an early season loss to Prescott.

Melbourne also competed in the Class 3A State Playoffs, but they were not as fortunate. The Bearkatz went on the road and fell to Charleston 66-35. Melbourne’s season comes to an end with a record of 8-3.

District play came to an end for three area football teams in Missouri.

West Plains was able to finish the night as the champions of the Class 4, District 6 Playoffs. The top-seeded Zizzers held off Bolivar by a final of 24-21. West Plains is now 8-3 on the year, and they’ll again be on the home turf Nov. 23 when they meet Warrenton in the quarterfinals of the Class 4 State Playoffs.

Forsyth’s quest for the title of the Class 3, District 6 Playoffs came up well short. The Panthers lost the championship game to top-seeded Seneca 64-7. Forsyth’s season ends at 7-5.

Branson’s only loss of the year came in the championship game of the Class 5, District 6 Playoffs. The top-seeded Pirates fell at home to Republic 35-10. Branson’s final record is 10-1.
