
Several basketball teams gathered at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison on Thursday for the start of the the 50th-annual North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament.
Norfork’s girls suffered a 68-40 defeat at the hands of Clinton. Despite the loss, the Lady Panthers will advance to the semifinals due to the Lady Yellowjackets being scheduled in the Heber Springs Classic on Friday.
Valley Springs will be Norfork’s next opponent in the tournament. In a battle between Lady Tigers, Valley Springs defeated West Fork 51-40.
Yellville-Summit was able to win the second girls’ game of the day. The Lady Panthers breezed past Alpena 54-34.
Yellville-Summit’s semifinal matchup will be with Marshall. The Lady Bobcats topped Jasper by a final of 60-50.
Norfork was sent to the consolation side of the boys’ bracket. The Panthers ended up falling to Marshall’s junior varsity team 58-50.
Norfork’s next opponent in the tournament will be Alpena. Valley Springs invoked the mercy rule as they routed the Leopards 61-31.
Yellville-Summit was able to advance to the semifinals. The Panthers edged out West Fork by a score of 46-43.
Marshall’s varsity squad will be next for Yellville-Summit. The Bobcats got past Jasper 48-44 in double overtime.
The Rumble in the Rock Basketball Tournament began its three-day run at Calico Rock.
The host Lady Pirates were able to move on to the semifinals. Calico Rock beat Hillcrest 60-48.
Cedar Ridge dominated Koshkonong 78-35 in the other girls’ game. On the boys’ side, Hillcrest doubled up Midland 76-38, and Kingston pounded Koshkonong 59-38.
The Salem girls’ opener in the Heber Springs Holiday Classic ended with a 65-34 thrashing over Star City. Hadley Reed led the Lady Greyhounds with 20 points, and Montana Franks and Jailyn Strong added 13 each. Salem improves to 7-4 on the season.
