Democrat-Gazette’s 1st basketball poll of season has MH girls at No. 2 in Class 5A, No. 4 overall

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has released its first rankings for the high school basketball season, and Mountain Home’s girls are among the area teams in the polls.

The Lady Bombers are ranked second in Class 5A and fourth overall by the Little Rock newspaper. The Lady Bombers, currently 14-2 on the season, are only behind new conference foe Farmington in Class 5A. Mountain Home secured its third tournament championship of the season on Dec. 28 when they defeated North Little Rock in the title game of the Atlas Asphalt Basketball Tournament.

Two other area girls’ teams made the opening rankings. Rural Special is fourth in Class 1A, and Valley Springs is third in Class 3A.

The Democrat-Gazette’s overall No. 1 girls’ team is Conway.

Four area boys’ teams are also in the newspaper’s polls. Izard County is sixth in Class 2A. Bergman has the top spot in Class 3A, and Melbourne is fourth. Harrison is sixth in Class 5A.

Jonesboro has top spot in the boys’ overall top 10.
