A Gamaliel residence was a total loss when it caught fire early Saturday morning. Gamaliel Fire Chief John Sandell says no one was injured from the blaze at 273 Silver Fox Trail.
According to the incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to the fire just after 2 and found fire personnel already on the scene. The deputy made contact with the homeowners, identified as Benjamin Haas and Heather Shaw. Haas says he and Shaw were asleep in their bedroom when he smelled smoke coming from another room. Once he realized the house was on fire, he reportedly woke Shaw up, and they gathered a few cats and other items before getting out.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined. Chief Sandell says his department was assisted on the scene by the Northeast Lakeside, Henderson and Bakersfield fire departments.
