The Arkansas Football Coaches Association announced the finalists for this year’s High School Broyles Award, given to the top assistant coach from this past season, and two represent the area. Mountain Home offensive coordinator Darin Acklin and Salem offensive coordinator Billy Webber are among the eight vying for the award.

Acklin led a Bomber offense that helped the team make its first state semifinal appearance in 18 years. Running back Jacob Chenoweth set a pair of school records for a season after leading Mountain Home’s ground attack with 1,856 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Webber led the Greyhounds’ offense as the team won its first state championship in program history. Salem running back Kaden Brink finished the season with over 1,400 yards on the ground, and quarterback Jackson Taylor was named the MVP of the Class 3A title game after completing all five of his pass attempts for 129 yards and a touchdown and running for 69 yards and two additional scores.

The other finalists include Daniel Ellen of Conway Christian, Alex Burris of Elkins, Mark Whatley of Farmington, Ashley Henley of Shiloh Christian, Derek Davis of Fayetteville and Adam Pendergrass of Bryant.

The winner will be announced during next month’s Ronnie Roach/Arkansas Football Coaches Association Clinic in Hot Springs.
