
The Izard County High School boys’ basketball were dominant in their Class 2A State Tournament opener at Cedar Ridge High School in Newark with an 81-54 victory over Hector. Gabe Spray led the Cougars with 40 points, Kade Yancey finished with 14, and Cash Arnhart chipped in 13. Izard County improves to 25-11 on the season.
Two area boys’ teams played their openers in the Class 1A State Tournament at Trumann.
Lead Hill was one and done as they lost to Lafayette County 54-41. The Tigers were led by Brett Arnold with 11 points. Lead Hill ends the season at 26-17.
Jasper was also eliminated from the tournament as they fell to Blevins 87-61. The Pirates’ final record on the year is 29-9.
In Missouri, a few area boys’ teams were in district play on Wednesday.
West Plains was bounced from the Class 5, District 6 Tournament at Webb City with a 66-54 loss to Springfield Parkview. The Zizzers finish the season at 12-15.
Two area teams took part in the semifinals of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament at Logan-Rogersville High School.
Forsyth advanced to Friday’s championship game with a 70-53 victory over another group of Panthers from Mountain Grove. Forsyth is now 20-7 on the year.
Forsyth’s next opponent will be Logan-Rogersville. Ava ended up falling to the host Wildcats 72-39. The Bears wrap up the season at 12-16.
Branson went to Nixa for its first game in the Class 6, District 5 Tournament and lost to Springfield Glendale 74-55. The Pirates conclude the season at 14-13.
