NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – A central Arkansas police officer with a strong social media following says he plans to post less during work hours. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that North Little Rock officer Tommy Norman announced on his Instagram page, which has 1 million followers, that he isn’t allowed to post “interactions with the community on city time.”

A police department spokesman says Norman will be allowed to post such interactions while on duty if he gets approval from the media department.

Department officials say there needs to be a separation between the department and Norman’s Mission Give project, a foundation established after Los Angeles rapper The Game and his son, Harlem, supported Norman in a 2016 social media fundraising campaign.

Norman’s community outreach has reached national audiences as he’s been featured on shows like NBC’s The Today Show.
