Day 2 of the St. Croix Bassmaster Open at Norfork Lake has been postponed due to the threat of severe weather. B.A.S.S. officials say the full field of anglers will now compete Saturday, which will serve as the final day of the tournament.
B.A.S.S. executive tournament director Hank Weldon says the decision wasn’t easy, but angler safety is the top priority. He noted worsening weather conditions throughout the day played a major role in the postponement.
The National Weather Service reports a warm front is expected to stall in the area, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes.
Veteran angler Casey Scanlon of Eldon, Missouri, leads after Day 1 with a total catch of 18 pounds, 5 ounces, including a 5-pound, 9-ounce largemouth. Doug Chapin sits in second place, trailing by 1 pound, 8 ounces.
