The Cotter School Board did not have to look far to hire its new superintendent. After its executive session of over 2 1/2 hours during Friday’s special meeting, the board unanimously agreed to extend an offer to Mountain Home Kindergarten Principal Vanessa Thomas-Jones.
Thomas-Jones says she is excited to return to the school district she graduated from in 1991.
Thomas-Jones has been at Mountain Home Kindergarten since 2010 after serving as an assistant principal at Pinkston Middle School. She began her education career in 1996 as a teacher at Cotter, and she later taught at Valley Springs before moving to an administration role at Mountain Home in 2006. Thomas-Jones says she enjoyed going to school as a kid, and that led to getting into the education business.
Thomas-Jones adds her time as an administrator at Mountain Home and the lessons she learned there have prepared her for this next step.
Thomas-Jones was selected out of a pool of 31 applicants. She will succeed Chad Harp who resigned after one year at Cotter to become the elementary and high school principal of Oark School in the Jasper School District.
