
With many premier fishing locations, the Twin Lakes Area may experience an influx of new fishermen trying their hand at getting a big catch during the annual Free Fishing Weekend.
Free Fishing Weekend is a statewide event which happens every June and allows anyone to fish without a license or trout stamp. Residents and nonresidents can begin fishing for free from noon Friday through midnight Sunday.
Jason Miller, Assistant Chief of Fisheries Division of Fish Hatcheries at Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), says the weekend of free fishing lands at a prime time in the year to allow as many people as possible to experience Arkansas’ waters.

Miller says the AGFC, who sponsors the event, makes sure plenty of fishing derbies are ran throughout the weekend and ponds get restocked.

Despite the rainfall the area has seen recently and may continue to see throughout the weekend, Miller doesn’t believe it will effect fishing on the area’s lakes.

Fish Free Weekend has been a staple in Arkansas for more than 30 years and continues despite the already low price of fishing licenses the state provides.
