Notices are being mailed later this week to those in Baxter County whose property values have increased with the reappraisal process completed earlier this year.

Baxter County Assessor Jayme Nicholson says about 15,000 notices are set to be mailed.

State law requires that property in all 75 counties be reappraised either every three or five years depending on growth. With the downturn in the economy a few years ago, all counties are now on a five-year cycle, with 2017 being the final year.

For those who do not agree with their valuation notice, the appraisers who calculated the values will be available by calling 870-425-0171.

Nicholson says many times questions can be answered and matters settled over the phone.

After speaking with an appraiser, if property owners still do not agree with their value change, they may set an appointment with the Equalization Board by contacting the County Clerk’s office at 870-425-3475.

August 1st is the first day appointments may be made with the Equalization Board. Appointments must be made by August 21.

Questions regarding homesteads, property freezes, deed changes, or address changes, may be directed to the Assessor’s Office at 870-425-3453.
