A sex offender registered with the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Thursday after deputies served a search warrant at a residence on Baxter CR 30.

The Sheriff’s Office reported they had information to believe that firearms were located at the residence of 64-year-old sex offender David Allen Carleton. A search warrant to search the premises was issued Wednesday.

During the subsequent search, deputies found multiple firearms, drugs and drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of cash. Items collected included a Taurus .38 cal revolver, a Highpoint 9mm pistol, a rifle with interchangeable barrels, multiple baggies and other containers of marijuana, THC vape pens, $25,500 in cash, and a pipe used to ingest a controlled substance.

In addition, deputies found a fishing boat and trailer belonging to Carleton. He had failed to report ownership to the sex offender registration coordinator, which is required by Arkansas law.

Carleton was arrested and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements, possession of firearms by certain persons, possession of controlled substance with purpose to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, and possession of drug paraphernalia all felonies. A penalty enhancement charge was also added for Carleton being a habitual offender.

Carleton, a low level 2 sex offender, is being held in the Baxter County jail with a bond of $75,000. Carleton shows to have seven prior bookings in the Baxter County Detention Center dating back to 2005.
