Eric Hall Guynes of Mountain Home pled not guilty to stealing a pickup truck during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday, and then heard that charges related to the theft of a second vehicle were to be lodged against him.

The current charge involves the theft of a red 1997 Dodge pickup truck early this month. The Mountain Home Police Department received a call reporting that a male subject drove into the parking lot of a local apartment complex in a red BMW. The man told the victim that he was having trouble with the car and asked for a ride. The victim agreed to take the man where he wanted to go, and went back into his apartment to put on his shoes when he heard his truck start and drive away.

The victim gave chase on foot, but was unable to catch the vehicle. A be-on-the-lookout message was broadcast for the truck. Less than a hour later, a report was made of a “suspicious acting” male walking in the Lowe’s parking lot. A Mountain Home police officer went to the scene and located the stolen truck parked and unattended. A male was spotted matching the description given in the report. The man was walking between vehicles and away from the officer.

The officer stopped the man and he was identified as the 40-year-old Guynes. Guynes was arrested after the victim and another witness identified him as the person who drove off in the truck.

Andrew Bailey with the Public Defenders’office had started to argue for a reduction in his client’s $15,000 bond when 14th Judicial District Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kerry Chism informed the court that another charge related to a second stolen vehicle was to be lodged against Guynes. Bailey said there was no reason to lower the present bond only to have his client rearrested on the yet-to-be-filed charge.

Guynes’ bond will remain as originally set and he was ordered to reappear in circuit court September 29th.
