Hootin and Hollarin Festival starts Thursday

     The 56th Annual Hootin and Hollarin Festival, one of the oldest festivals in the region, starts a three day run Thursday, September 15 in Gainesville. Nancy Walker, one of the event organizers, says folks return year after year the free event which is open to everyone, not just Missouri residents.

     Each day features musical entertainment, including square dancing each night, says Walker.

     The musical line-up includes gospel music by Nancy Collins and Makenna and Brock on Thursday; Friday’s music includes The Morey Sullivan Band, Shadetree Pickin’, David Piland, the Ozark County Youth Musical Talent Show, Blackberry Winter Band and Big Creek Bluegrass. Music on Saturday The Morey Sullivan Band returns along with Possum Holler Fiddlers, Sunshine, Wires on Wood, Broken Project and The Baker Family.

     Hootin and Hollarin features two parades, the Costume Parade Friday afternoon at 2 and the Big Float and Band Parade Saturday afternoon at 2.

     The Queen Pageant will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 and the Lil Cedar Pete and Lil Miss Addie Lee contest is set for Saturday afternoon at 3:15 followed by the Princess Pageant.

     Other events include bed races Friday afternoon and outhouse races Saturday morning. Saturday contests feature pig, cow, turkey and husband calling; pie eating and a pet show for a wide variety of family pets.

     All three days of the festival vendors featuring food and crafts will be on hand, barrel train rides for kids will run from 4:40 to 6:30 each afternoon, the Quilt Show will be open as well as numerous games and activities for children.
