ST. LOUIS (AP) – St. Louis police say a suspected carjacker was shot to death by the would-be victim.

Police say 24-year-old Christopher Nelson died near the scene of the shooting shortly before 7 a.m. Monday.

Investigators say the 52-year-old owner of the vehicle told police that when an armed man approached him and demanded his vehicle, the car owner feared for his safety and fired several shots at the man.

Police say the suspected carjacker’s body was on a vacant lot.

There say the matter is classified as a “justifiable homicide,” though the investigation continues.

Nelson does not have a listed home telephone number.
