Little Rock Police Officer Shawn Bakr is the Arkansas Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
The announcement was made Wednesday at the 2016 Law Enforcement Summit at Camp Robinson hosted by Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.
Bakr was chosen for his actions while working off-duty at a Little Rock restaurant in January then three people, two armed, entered the business and threatened employees while demanding money. Bakr was shot in the shoulder and returned gunfire while chasing the suspects out of the restaurant, then returned to assist anyone injured.
He was later treated and released for the gunshot wound.
Rutledge also presented tributes to the widows of McCrory Police Officer Robert Aaron Barker and Sebastian County Sheriff's Cpl. Bill Cooper, who died in the line of duty during the past year.
