An Arkansas lawmaker opposed to ballot measures legalizing medical marijuana says he’ll introduce legislation next year to make a more limited form of the drug available to some patients if voters reject the proposals.
Republican Rep. Dan Douglas promised Monday he’d file legislation during next year’s session that would legalize marijuana that is low tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which produces the euphoric state for users, but is high in cannabidiol (CBD) for some patients with certain conditions. CBD is a marijuana compound that has been used to fight seizures.
Douglas said he believed the approach was more responsible than two competing medical marijuana proposals that would allow patients to buy the drug from licensed dispensaries.
Douglas made the promise at a news conference with other lawmakers opposed to the medical pot measures.
