#GivingTuesday kicks off Tuesday, following the Thanksgiving holiday and the widely popular Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The global social media event benefits local charities and nonprofits. According to Arkansas Nonprofit Alliance President and CEO Stephanie Meincke #GivingTuesday was developed to give back to organizations who provide priceless services to our communities throughout the year.

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson recently released a proclomation about the event saying more than 2,500 recognized partners from all 50 states have collaborated to increase charitable giving compared to the post-Thanksgiving Tuesday in 2015. #GivingTuesday began in 2012 with New York City’s cultural institution 92nd Street Y. It is characterized by a hashtag which turns a word, or any group of words that follow, into a searchable Twitter link. When the hashtag is clicked, posts concerning the subject are able to be seen on Twitter in real time. Through the power of social media #GivingTuesday has become a global movement of giving and philanthropy.

The Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce recently announced a link which shows some of the local participating organizations and links to their contact information. Visit givingtuesday.org and put the city and state in the search boxes.
