Cotter man named Arkansan of the Week

     Arkansas United States Senator Tom Cotton has named James Ross of Cotter as Arkansan of the Week. Ross was recognized on the floor of the U. S. Senate by Cotton who said Ross exemplifies what it means to be a great Arkansan through his work with his family, church and community.

     Ross, a retired carpenter and United States Navy veteran who was nominated by his grandson, Cameron, expressed his surprise at the news.

     In the nomination of his grandfather, Cameron said his grandfather was a great Arkansan, not for doing anything major, but because he has done countless little things to further his city, state and nation. He went on to say his grandfather’s faith drives his every move and at 86, he still gives as much back to his community as he can.

     Cotter Mayor Peggy Hammock, who was delighted to hear about the honor, spoke of Ross’s contributions to the community.

     Ross and his wife, Mary Lou, moved to Cotter in 1959. They have three sons and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     Each week Senator Cotton will honor an Arkansan of the Week in a speech on the Senate floor. The initiative is designed to honor citizens of the state who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to their communities and the state of Arkansas.
