Explosives found in vehicle by Hardy Police

     A traffic stop for fictitious tags turned serious Wednesday after it was discovered the driver and passenger had explosive material and devices in their possession. According to a release from the Hardy Police Department and Area Wide News, Hardy police officers Tamara Taylor and Scott Hart initiated the traffic stop just before 4 in the morning on Highway 62/413 near Holden Lane.

     After running the driver’s license of the two men, whose names have not yet been released, it was discovered there were warrants for the driver of the vehicle and the passenger also had a suspended drivers license.

     As the passenger exited the vehicle for a searched incident to arrest, the officers could see suspected explosive devices.One or more suspected explosive devices were located in the floor board as well as possible components to manufacture an explosive device.The passenger of the vehicle was taken into custody and transported to the Sharp County Jail along with the driver.

     Arkansas State Police Bomb Tech’s were on the scene to assist and disable the device using specialized equipment. Hardy Police and agents from ATF responded.

     The FBI has been notified of the incident and the two men are currently being held.
