A Baxter County resident is accused of using counterfeit money to make purchases. Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel reports 22-year-old David Taylor of Gassville is charged with a felony count of second-degree forgery and misdemeanor counts of theft of property and possession of a controlled substance. He is in the Baxter County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.

Officers were dispatched Sunday evening to a local business in reference to counterfeit money being passed. Management alleges two males entered the store, and one made a purchase with $120 in counterfeit $20 bills. The men return to the store attempting to purchase jewelry. Taylor was attempting to pass two more counterfeit $20 bills at the jewelry counter, but the clerk refused. After officers made contact with both men, Taylor turned over $480 in counterfeit $20 bills. He was also in possession of multiple Xanax bars, a Schedule IV narcotic, without a prescription.

Taylor is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.
