NWS confirms tornado in Boone County

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Boone County Saturday afternoon. A survey team from the National Weather Service office in Little Rock conducted their survey of the damage Sunday and determined the tornado was rated an EF-1 tornado with an estimated peak wind of between 86 and 110 miles per hour.

The tornado first touched down at 3:16 Saturday afternoon two miles west, southwest of Bellfonte. It stayed on the ground for two minutes before lifting one mile north of Bellfonte. The total trek of the twister was 1.97 miles and it was 100 yards wide.

One person was reported injured in the storm but the extent of the injuries is not known.
