A public hearing in Marion County for the purpose of identifying and prioritizing the needs of the county is set for next Tuesday evening, May 9 in the Marion County Courthouse. The hearing has been set as county officials consider applying to the Arkansas Economic Development Commission for a Community and Economic Development Program Grant.

The State of Arkansas receives federal funds that are administered by the AEDC and are made available to cities and counties according to need. Funds may be used for housing rehabilitation, community facilities or economic development. However, objectives must be met including providing benefit to low and moderate income families; prevention of slum or blight; and other community needs which pose a serious, immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community where no other funding is available to meet such needs.

Again, that public hearing will be held on May 9. It is open to all residents of Marion County and the county will provide technical assistance in developing proposals by groups representing low and moderate income individuals.
