One year ago, the Cubs were 26-8 after 34 games, and they were securely in first place in the National League Central, while the Cardinals were 18-16 and 7 1/2 games back. They’ve switched places as the two rivals head into a three-game series that opens Friday at Busch Stadium.

The first-place Cardinals, who have won a season-high six in a row, play host to the scuffling Cubs, who have lost five of their past six games. Think about this: last year, the Cards were never in first place.

Mike Leake (4-1) will get the start for the cardinals. For the cubs Eddie Butler (0-0)will take the mound. Game time in St Louis tonight is 7:05 PM with the pregame starting at 6:20 PM on KTLO AM.
