SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ A man who was wounded in a police shooting in Springfield has been charged with robbing a gas station.
Forty-seven-year-old Michael Hancock, of Springfield, is charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Bond is set at $500,000. The prosecutor’s office didn’t immediately return a phone message about whether he had an attorney.
Police said in a news release that the shooting happened after officers responded around 4:30 a.m. Thursday to a report of a man walking along a road, wearing a mask and carrying a handgun. The release said officers chased the man and shot at him when he pointed a handgun at the officers near a hotel. Hancock is hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
The robbery occurred shortly before the shooting at a nearby Phillips 66.
