Gassville man arrested on drug charges

A Gassville man, 29-year-old John Everett Shrum, Jr.,  was arrested early Thursday morning on drug possession charges. He faces two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Baxter County Jail and released the same day after posting a $5,000 bond.According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Gates stopped Shrum’s vehicle for a traffic violation at approximately 1:33 Thursday morning on Baxter County Road 8. Shrum was a passenger in the vehicle. After observing suspected marijuana in open view inside, the deputy conducted a search of him and the vehicle.

During the course of the search, the deputy found drugs and drug paraphernalia. Drugs found included small quantities of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, alprazolam pills and acetaminophen pills, as well as articles used to ingest or consume drugs.

Shrum is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court.
