Sheriff’s Deputies and MHPD involved in another high speed pursuit

Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Mountain Home Police Department were involved in another high speed pursuit early Wednesday morning. Deputies were asked to join a pursuit of a vehicle driven by 48-year-old Jerry Lee Brown of Mountain Home. The pursuit began at Eastside Baptist Church and ended up approximately three miles west of Caufield. Brown was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Ozark County Jail where he is awaiting extradition back to Arkansas.

According to an incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department, deputies joined the pursuit on Highway 201 North, approximately six miles north of Mountain Home. Speeds reached between 70 and 92 miles-per-hour. Deputies say Brown was driving erratically, stopping and taking off again and crossing over the center line several times.

As the pursuit went onto J Highway and 160 at Miller’s Store, Mountain Home Police called off their chase and deputies took over. Brown stopped his car just west of Caufield and fled into the woods. Sheriff’s Deputies were joined by Ozark County Deputies in a foot pursuit.

Some time later Brown was heard yelling for help. He was taken into custody and allegedly said there were nine other people in the woods with them and that he had taken an “8-ball” of an unknown substance and 30 Hydrocodone.

This is the second high speed pursuit this week. The Baxter County Sheriff’s Department, Mountain Home Police and Arkansas State Police began chasing a juvenile in a vehicle on the Sheid Hopper Bypass at 1:32 Sunday morning, after being clocked at 90 miles-per-hour.

The juvenile was eventually taken into custody by state police.
