Theft of debit card, checks leads to arrest




A Mountain Home man, 29-year-old Daniel Martinez, has been arrested in connection with the theft of a debit card and checks in separate incidents.

Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel says in a press release on May 18 officers received a report of theft of property from a local resident. The complainant stated she was visiting with her neighbors when a male subject stopped and began visiting with them. The male subject
entered the complainant’s residence.

Later this day, the complainant was notified of suspicious activity on her debit card. The debit card was used to make a gas purchase and multiple ATM cash withdrawals totaling over $470. The complainant checked and noticed her debit card was missing. She told officers she only knew the male subject as Danny. After reviewing video surveillance, the suspect was identified as Martinez.

Three days later, two checks totaling over $140 belonging to a different victim were used at two different area business. From the complaint filed with police, a cellphone and additional checks were reported stolen. Again, the suspect Martinez was identified by video surveillance.

Martinez has been charged with theft of property and forgery, both felony counts, along with four misdemeanor counts, as well as two charge of an habitual criminal act.

He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond and will appear in circuit court.
