OBGYN physician W. Corey Smith to open practice

Dr. W. Corey Smith has joined the medical staff at Baxter Regional Medical Center and is set to open his obstetrician and gynecologist practice at a new clinic on July 24. BRMC Obstetrics & Gynecology will be located in the Medical Arts Building, Suite 3B.

Dr. Smith was born and raised in McComb, Mississippi. He graduated with honors from St. George’s University School of Medicine in the West Indies and completed an obstetrics/gynecology residency at Drexel University/Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Smith specializes in women’s health, focusing on reproductive care from puberty through adulthood and treating women during pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Recently, Dr. Smith traveled to sub-Saharan Africa to participate in training programs aimed at increasing access to lifesaving surgical skills including cesarean delivery. Additionally, the training programs included techniques aimed at improving the management of postpartum hemorrhage through utilization of specialized procedures.

According to BRMC officials, Dr. Smith looks forward to continued participation with these programs and working locally with the Schliemann Center for Women’s Health Education, where he will host discussions and work with our community.

He and his fiancé, Alexis, enjoy outdoor activities including scuba diving, canoeing, hiking, photography, hunting and fishing.
