A Marion County man, 29-year-old Kenneth Elder of Ralph, has been arrested on felony drug and weapons charges. According to the arrest affidavit, an Arkansas State Police trooper stopped the vehicle Elder was driving on State Highway 178 near Fairview on July 9 after observing its broken taillight and windshield.

When Elder was unable to produce his driver’s license, he was asked to exit the vehicle. As the officer conducted a pat-down for weapons, he confirmed Elder’s identity and placed him under arrest for an outstanding warrant from the Mountain Home Police Department and for driving on a suspended license.

While searching Elder’s pockets, the officer found a clear plastic baggie containing what was believed to be marijuana, a small red container holding a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, digital scales, and a clear glass pipe, commonly used for smoking methamphetamine in his right cargo pocket.

With Elder placed in the back of the patrol car, the trooper initiated a search of his vehicle. The search produced a metal revolver with wooden handle containing six Hornady bullets under the front passenger seat and a box containing 21 additional bullets. A further search produced rolling papers in the front driver’s door.

Elder was charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a firearm by certain persons, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all felony counts.

Elder was taken to the Marion County jail. His bond was set at $15,000. He was released on Saturday and will appear in Marion County Circuit Court.
