An alert Baxter County Sheriff’s corporal on patrol Friday evening stopped a vehicle driven by a Midway man, 29-year-old Kenneth Hurst, when truck tags were detected on the car he was driving.

Hurst advised the officer that he had just purchased the vehicle he was driving and had not changed the license plate. Hurst, who is on probation with a search warrant on file, was asked to exit the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a pill bottle with 69 tablets of suspected Xanax type medication labeled in Hurst’s name, a bag with 10 syringes, and a scale with suspected methamphetamine residue. Hurst reportedly admitted the residue was from methamphetamine. Further search located five additional syringes and a second location with residue of a white crystal like substance.

Hurst was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on felony charges of possession of a schedule IV or V controlled substance with purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and habitual criminal act related to conviction of drug charges in 2014. He was released on Saturday after posting a $5,000 bond.
