A Yellville man, 25-year-old Leigh Blackmon, has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident in Summit in which he is alleged to have attempted to steal a vehicle.

According to the arrest affidavit, a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to an incident at a car lot in Summit. The owner advised a vehicle parked under a carport near the main office in view of security cameras had been damaged. The report noted the vehicle’s steering column was broken, with exposed wires and other parts hanging. A large wrench was also discovered in the driver’s side floorboard. A long wooden handle was also leaning on the passenger seat, along with what appeared to be a metal access tool between the passenger seat and the console.

The deputy reviewed security footage and was able to see the suspect on three different cameras. On one camera, the suspect, later identified as Blackmon, is seen entering a nearby storage shed about 4:15 a.m. and exiting over 20 minutes later with what appeared to be the long wooden handle found in the car. The footage continues until about 10:30 when Blackmon is seen exiting the vehicle in daylight, looking around as though he is a customer, and walking away when he passes the owner of the car lot. The officer identified Blackmon from the camera footage from previous contact with the Sheriff’s Office.

Blackmon has been charged with two counts of breaking or entering, felony offenses, along with two misdemeanor charges. His bond was set at $26,000.
