The case of Ashley Wensel of Mountain Home, who is charged with stabbing her sister and injuring her cousin when the two young people attempted to stop her from what appeared to be an attempt to take her own life, has been dismissed at the request of the victims. The 24-year-old Wensel had been charged with second degree domestic battery and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. She entered a not guilty plea to the charges during a circuit court session on January 26th.

Wensel’s arrest stemmed from a January 24th incident when Mountain Home police responded to a call of a suicidal person. When the officer arrived he found Wensel being held down by her mother. According to the probable cause affidavit, she was covered in blood.

Police were told Wensel had her sister and male cousin, both juveniles, visiting for the evening. According to the affidavit, she was reported to be distraught over the breakup of a relationship and had been consuming alcohol.

At one point, Wensel is alleged to have attempted to swallow an unknown amount of prescription drugs,

According to the police report, the two juveniles attempted to stop her and during the struggle, Wensel grabbed a knife and the sister was stabbed in the chest and cut on her left arm – both injuries requiring stitches. The male juvenile relative was allegedly stabbed in the back of his head with broken glass and also sustained what were described as minor injuries to his hands while attempted to take the knife from Wensel.

The victims appeared with Wensel and Wensel’s attorney, Norman Wilber, to show their support for not proceeding with the case during a recent session of circuit court. It was indicated in court during that appearance that Wensel has been undergoing counseling and would continue with those sessions.

The order dismissing the case was signed by Judge Gordon Webbon August 1st. A companion no contact order prohibiting Wensel from interacting with the victims was also lifted.
