The city of Gainesville is advertising for bids to demolish its firehouse. The Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department’s building at U.S. Highway 160 and Missouri Highway 5 North was damaged in the April 29th flood, and a month later, it was destroyed by a fire along with two fire department vehicles.

The Ozark County Times reports the building was not covered by flood insurance, but it was insured against fires. Currently, the department is providing fire coverage to the citizens of Gainesville with newly-acquired equipment and assistance from other departments in Ozark County.

It’s unknown where the fire department will be housed in the future. Gainesville City Clerk Lisa Goodnight says the city council will consider different options when they meet Monday evening.
