Lawn ornament thief now in trouble on drug charges

Michael Ransom Hobbs, II, of Mountain Home, who was found guilty in May on a long string of charges stemming from the theft of lawn ornaments throughout the county, is back in trouble – this time on drug charges.Hobbs pled not guilty to the new charges during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday. Judge Gordon Webb set his bond at $3,000.

The 25-year-old Hobbs was arrested by Mountain Home police July 25th when the officers went to an apartment looking for the suspect in another case.

When officers entered the apartment, they found Hobbs and two other people. Hobbs is alleged to have hidden drugs and drug paraphernalia.

According to the probable cause affidavit, officers found marijuana, a substance believed to be methamphetamine, syringes and glass smoking pipes in the apartment.

Hobbs is charged with possessing methamphetamine and paraphernalia used in the ingestion of the drug.

In May, Hobbs pled guilty to stealing a significant number of lawn ornaments in various parts of the county. He was given probation and ordered to pay $900 in restitution in that case.

He was arrested after victims of one of the thefts saw what they believed to be lawn ornaments that had been stolen from them on display in front of a second hand store in Gassville.

The owner of the store identified Hobbs as the person who sold the items to the business and told investigators he had purchased several like items from Hobbs during a four-month period.
