Gas canisters deployed in 3-hour standoff

A Mountain Grove man, 34-year-old Robert Finch, is being held without bond in the Douglas County jail following a standoff Friday morning with multiple cans of gas deployed to remove the parole absconder from a residence.The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports officers from that agency, along with law enforcement personnel from Ozark and Wright County, were engaged in the standoff for three and a half hours.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office had received information that Finch had cut off his GPS monitor and was residing in residence on County Road 146.

Officers arrived at the scene, surrounded the residence and attempted negotiations, with Finch unresponsive. Finch surrendered and was taken into custody after multiple cans of gas were deployed.

Charges are pending.

In 2013, Finch was involved in a man hunt that began in Arkansas and went through Ozark County. He stole a vehicle and a firearm. The man hunt was concluded in Wright County where he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound before being taken into custody. Finch was sentenced to prison and had been released on probation and parole. He was not complying with the conditions of his probation and was placed on house arrest with the ankle monitor.
