MONETT, Mo. (AP)   A Monett police officer who fatally shot a man in September has been cleared to return to active duty.

The Monett police department said in a statement that officer Austin Royster returned to duty Friday after an internal investigation.

Royster had been on administrative leave after the Sept. 8 shooting of 50-year-old Michael Culhane on Sept. 8 when he responded to a report of a drug overdose. Monett police have said only that the situation “escalated” after Royster arrived on the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate Culhane’s shooting.
