Stephen Attaway of Mountain Home pled guilty to fraudulent use of a credit/debit card and was given five years probation and ordered to pay slightly more than $1,300 in restitution during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

In early January last year, a victim reported she had transactions on her debit card she had not made. She also told investigators she was familiar with the 35-year-old Attaway, and he had been to her residence in the past.

In mid-February last year, investigators reported another person had been the victim of the fraudulent use of a debit card issued in his name. It was discovered the victim’s ex-girlfriend had entered into a new relationship with Attaway. Unknown to the victims, a new debit card and personal identification number had been mailed to his previous address where he had lived with the ex-girlfriend. In the probable cause affidavit, it was alleged Attaway had opened the mail and used the debit card at several ATM’s. Three withdrawals were made in February last year — each for slightly more than $400.

Video surveillance cameras at a local bank picked up Attaway making one of the withdrawals with the stolen card.
