KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The University of Missouri Board of Curators is making changes to gain more control over finances while anticipating that state lawmakers are unlikely to support many major capital projects in the future.
The board on Thursday decided any proposals for projects will need approval from curators before fundraising begins. In the past, each campus was allowed to pick a top priority project and submit it to the Department of Higher Education, with the proposals then being sent to the curators.
The Columbia Tribune reports the change came after curators in July approved four construction requests while realizing that the state would provide little money to fund the projects.
Curator David Steelman says the purpose of the change is to have the board and system president driving strategic changes.
