Jenay Mize, Baxter County Treasurer, was among 67 treasurers and deputy treasurers to attend The Arkansas County Treasurer’s Association summer continuing education meeting in mid-September at Mt. Magazine State Park in Paris. Mize has earned a total of 108 continuing education credit hours and says she was thankful to attend the informative meeting. The association’s Continuing Education Committee and Executive Board conducted their meetings late Wednesday, September 13. The following morning, AAC Consultant Eddie Jones addressed the entire association. He answered frequently asked questions from treasurers pertaining to county audits, reviews and money management.

In addition, Arkansas State Treasurer Dennis Milligan shared information regarding the State Treasury Money Management Fund.

Matt Knight, a nationally recognized speaker and author, encouraged meeting attendees with tips on how they can improve their work and personal lives.

Treasurers and deputies also attended a breakout session for roundtable discussions of various topics of interest to the county treasurer’s office.

On Friday, before adjourning, the association heard from Eric C. Smith, Ph.D., who provided “7 Baby Steps” to help eliminate debt, create a budget, and save money for the future.

The AAC supports and promotes the idea that all elected officials must have the opportunity to act together in order to solve mutual problems as a unified group. To further this goal, the Association of Arkansas Counties says they are committed to providing a single source of cooperative support and information for all counties and county and district officials.

The overall purpose of the association is to work for the improvement of county government in the state of Arkansas.

The Association accomplishes this purpose by providing legislative representation, on-site assistance, general research, training, various publications and conferences to assist county officials in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of their office.
