Arkansas man pleads not guilty in fatal shooting of mother

(AP) _ A northwest Arkansas man has pleaded not guilty to capital murder in the death of his mother.The Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports that 21-year-old Patrick Malone entered the plea in Benton County Circuit Court on Monday.

Court documents say Patrick Malone’s father, Danny Malone, called authorities July 31, saying his son fatally shot his wife, 44-year-old Christel Malone, in their Garfield home. He told police his son is mentally ill.

Court documents say Christel Malone had multiple bullet wounds in her face. Authorities arrested Patrick Malone at the scene.

Patrick Malone told investigators his mother called him names and that they didn’t get along. He is being held in Benton County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Deputy prosecutor Bryan Sexton says the death penalty will be waived.
