A precautionary boil water order has been issued for a portion of the Lakeview-Midway Public Water Authority following a waterline repair. A spokesperson for the water authority says about 70 customers are impacted.

According to the notice issued by the Arkansas Department of Health, those customers impacted reside west of Hickory Flats on Nubbin Ridge and surrounding streets.

The order was issued as a precautionary measure due to the possibility contaminated water may have entered the distribution system as a result of partial loss of normal system pressure.

Under the boil water order, all affected customers are advised the water may be unsafe for human consumption, and water used for drinking or food preparation must be boiled briskly for one minute prior to use. All ice cubes should be discarded and only boiled water used for making ice.

The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected, an adequate disinfectant level is established throughout the distribution system and a bacteriological survey shows the water is safe to drink.

When the order is lifted, all impacted customers will be notified by telephone.
