A heavy equipment incident has caused the death of a Newton County man. According to the Harrison Daily Times, 39-year-old James Campbell of Western Grove was pronounced dead by the Newton County Coroner’s Office Thursday afternoon at the scene near the community of Ben’s Branch in the Mount Judea area.

Newton County Sheriff’s Investigator Glenn Wheeler says the office received a call around 3:20 stating a man was struck by a bulldozer and critically injured. Sheriff’s personnel, Mount Judea First Responders and North Arkansas Regional Medical Center EMS all responded to the scene and found Campbell appearing to be deceased.

Early evidence indicates Campbell may have been operating a bulldozer clearing land after logging operations and may have stepped out of the bulldozer to add fuel from a truck-mounted fuel tank. It appears the bulldozer moved backward pinning Campbell between it and the truck.
