Longtime Missouri professor named interim provost

(AP) – A longtime Missouri professor will be the new interim
provost at the University of Missouri.Chancellor Alexander Cartwright announced Thursday that Jim Spain will take over the job Feb. 1.

Spain has taught at the Columbia university since 1990 in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

Spain also has been vice provost for undergraduate studies for a decade.

Cartwright is searching for a permanent provost to replace Garnett Stokes, who has been named president at the University of New Mexico.

A 21-member committee is conducting the search for a new provost. Cartwright has said he expects the replacement to be selected by May.
