Two portions of frequented highways, Highway 126, in front of the Midway Volunteer Fire Station by the Ozark Regional Airport in Baxter County, and the intersection of Highway 126 and Highway 5 North in Midway, have a dangerous portion of ice on the road due to a house fire Sunday night.

Midway Volunteer Fire District Chief Don Tucker says tankers had to be filled with water at the station due to freezing conditions. Water which turned into ice on the highway is a result. Tucker says approximately 300 yards of ice is in front of the fire station on Highway 126 and another 300 yards exists at the triangle on Highway 5 North in Midway.

Firemen responded to a house fire, that started in the flue of a fireplace, on County Road 797 late Sunday. The home was a total loss, however there were no reported injuries.

The Grover Volunteer Fire Department and the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the 11:00 p.m. fire. It took firemen approximately five hours to extinguish the blaze.
