A Mountain Home man, 29-year-old Timothy Mark Floyd, has been arrested and charged with felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and furnishing prohibited articles following a traffic stop leading to a chase among a large group of tractor trailer rigs.

Floyd entered a plea of not guilty Thursday to the two felony charges, along with three misdemeanors, in Baxter County Circuit Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Arkansas State Police Trooper Nathan Litty conducted a traffic stop on December 23rd at a Gassville convenience store and gas station. Floyd was a passenger in the vehicle stopped at the gas pumps. As Trooper Litty was reviewing information from the Arkansas and National Crime Information Centers, Floyd jumped out of his vehicle with a backpack and began running from the gas station towards a large group of tractor trailer rigs.

Floyd dropped his backpack on the edge of the parking lot, along with his cell phone, and continued running from the officer. He attempted to go between two trucks and hide under one of the trailers. A further chase ensued when Floyd alluded Trooper Litty’s attempt to capture him under a trailer and fled again.

A short time later, Floyd fell in a gravel section of the parking lot, allowing Trooper Litty to gain control of him before he was able to stand. Upon returning to their vehicles, Trooper Litty cited the driver of the vehicle Floyd was traveling in for misdemeanor offenses. Floyd said he fled because he had a warrant for his arrest.

Before entering the Baxter County Detention Center, Floyd advised the trooper he was in possession of a socket tool in his bag he had used to smoke marijuana. A further search by jail personnel revealed a cigarette pack with a clear plastic baggie inside containing a white crystal like substance appearing to be methamphetamine. Digital scales were also located.

Floyd’s bond was set at $5,000.
