A Saturday afternoon apartment complex fire in Gainesville resulted in the owner suffering burns to his hands and face and the evacuation of four families. According to Springfield television station KYTV, the owner was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, and his condition is currently unknown.

The Lick Creek fire chief says the owner was working on the furnace of the building and was not aware of a propane leak. The explosion occurred after he started the furnace.

Two apartments are a total loss. The other apartments have smoke and water damage, but the structure isn’t safe to stay in. The families displaced from the fire were taken in by the American Red Cross.
